We’re in something of an odd place in games right now. A tremendous amount of games are announced, but very few have release windows. Not helping the situation is Grand Theft Auto 6 is announced with no release window, which is terrifying other studios to not announce release windows.
Games I’m looking most forward to in 2025 that have release windows
- January – Star Wars: Jedi Power Battles
- This is a pure nostalgia pick, one of the main games I go back to on the emulation side of things is this game on the PS1 and Dreamcast. I’m excited about a PC port and am really looking forward to it. Aspyr has a pretty negative track record on their ports and remasters… hopefully this one will fair better.
- February – Avowed
- I struggle with enjoying first person games these days, they are very challenging to do well (especially melee combat). The last one I enjoyed was Cyberpunk 2077 and even then I wish it was a third person game. I am open to giving this a shot, I love Obsidian entertainment and the Pillars of Eternity world. Hoping this will be great!
- February – Like A Dragon – Pirate Yakuza
- The Like A Dragon franchise is amazing. The output of Ryu Ga Gotoku studio is impressive. A couple of weeks ago two new titles were just announced from RGG – Project Century and Virtua Fighter 5.
Games I’m interested in but want to know more
- February – Assassin’s Creed Shadows
- So much controversy has arisen around this title, most of which just makes me want to avoid it, but I’m trying to keep an open mind
- March – Suikoden 1&2 Remaster
- I missed Suikoden when it was new and some of these ps1 era games are difficult for me to go back to. If this is regarded well as a remaster, I’m looking forward to checking it out.
Games I’m excited for that don’t have a release window (2025 and beyond)
- Blade
- Arkane Studios redemption arc? Love Blade the character, Arkane makes neat games (though first person).
- The Blood of Dawnwalker
- More info coming in mid-January, hoping this will be a great one.
- Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
- Turn based fantasy RPG, great voice talent.
- Control 2
- Follow up to the funky awesome Control 1, looking forward to it.
- Crimson Desert
- From MMO maker… looks interesting and want to know more.
- Exodus
- From the makers of Mass Effect, one of the best games of all time, definitely keeping my eye on this.
- Fable
- Very curious to see what will be done with the Peter Molyneaux legacy game? Will it live up to the original promise? Will it have any of the thoughts and ideas that the original was known for? Should be interesting.
- Metal Gear Solid: Delta Snake Eater
- Beautiful looking remake of the classic Metal Gear Solid 3 game.
- Perfect Dark
- One of my favorite games on the n64, I’ll definitely have a look.
- Shadow Labyrinth
- What if someone played pac-man on drugs and had an idea for a metroid-vania type game that’s grim and dark? This game.
- Solasta 2
- D&D in video game form, this one has a bit higher budget than its predecessor so should be interesting.
